Newark to host citywide neighborhood fashion shows

The city of Newark is hosting a Fashion Forward Tour that will feature the residents within the several neighborhoods of the city.

This tour will enable the city to highlight the talents of each neighborhood and focus on the artistic and fashionable people who make the city unique. Poster printing designed for such neighborhoods can be displayed to promote such special and distinctive events.

Mayor Ras Baraka said the objective of the Fashion Forward Tours is to identify those residents who may be unknown but are part of the fashion industry. Those encouraged to participate in these Thursday evening events can include make-up artists, aspiring models, masters of ceremony and commentators, talented folks looking to be part of the fashion scene, and local small business owners.

The Fashion Forward Coordinating Team is lead by coordinators Stacie Hillman, who is special assistant to the mayor, and Amiri Baraka, Jr, chief of staff. The rest of the team is made up from Senior Community Development Specialist Lucy Garcia and Deputy Mayor of International Relations and Diaspora Affairs Ligia De Freitas.

Upcoming shows include the West Ward on Thursday, December 22; the North Ward on Thursday, March 2; The South Ward on Thursday, April 27, and the Central Ward on Thursday, June 15. All shows are from 6:30 to 10:00 pm.
