To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the Wofabe African Dance and Drum Festival will be performing at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark later this month.
As the only African drum and dance festival in New Jersey, the celebration will feature a day filled with classes on dancing and playing the drums, culminating in a concert during the evening, featuring various artists from the African Diaspora.
Classes will run from 10:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. and include a drum class with Frankie Malloy; West African Dance with Cachet Ivey and Robin Gee; and a children’s African class with Parise Ogunleye, among others.
DeBorah Gray, an activist and poet, will host the evening concert. Among the performers will be the Newark Dance Ensemble, the Asase Yaa African American Dance Theatre, and the Harambee Dance Company.
Karen Love, founder of Wofabe, commented that this festival serves to pass on African tradition and culture to the community at large and helps to continue its legacy in the state.
The Wofabe African Dance and Drum Festival will be held on Saturday March 12. An ARTSTART project Grant from Newark Arts Council, the Investors Foundation and donations from the community are sponsoring the Festival and may look to donations from a Print company to Print various promotional materials informing the community of this special day-long festival and encouraging their participation and attendance.Get a Free Quote for Print
