Newark riverfront park to hold free concerts

Free Newark Riverfront music will be holding Orange Sticks concerts at the Newark Riverfront Park over the next two weekends. These are being sponsored by the Newark Riverfront Revival and the City of Newark in partnership with Essex County, Ironbound Community Corporation, and Friends of Riverfront Park. No doubt these organizations are using banner printing throughout the city to let residents become aware of these concerts so as to attract as many people as possible.

Located in the East Ward of Newark along the Passaic River, the Park can be reached by public transportation by either the New Jersey Transit No. 1 bus or from Newark Penn Station, from which it is a 10-minute walk. People who come to the concerts can bring their own lawn chairs and blankets.

The original Newark Riverfront Park was a park 12 acres in size with baseball and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, walking paths, two playground areas, and a small zone for parking. Just last month, the Park was expanded by about seven acres west towards Penn Station and added biking and walking trails, a 1,000-foot-long boardwalk along the riverside, a 60x10-foot floating dock for boat access, an outdoor learning space, and an area for performances and community gatherings.

According to the Trust for Public Land, this addition to the park provides public outdoor space that the community needs and a connection with the Ironbound neighborhood in downtown Newark on the east to the Passaic River.

The concerts will be begin at 7:00 pm and last for two hours on September 20 and 27.
