Newark Rhodes scholar plans to return to serve his city

Jordan Thomas, a graduate of University High in Newark who is in his last year at Princeton University, was recently chosen as one of 32 Rhodes Scholars for 2018 representing the United States. Thomas announced that someday he plans to return to Newark to complete the work he started.

Among the accomplishments of Thomas are serving as a student representative on the local School Advisory Board, interning at the Program Legal Group of the Office for Civil Rights at the United States Department of Education, and serving as a Fulbright Summer Institute Fellow at the University of Bristol.

This year, Thomas is set to graduate from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. At Oxford University in the UK, he will study for a master's degree in philosophy in evidence-based evaluation and social intervention.

Thomas said that he was honored to receive this special scholarship and believes that it will help him to return to Newark for service in the future.
