Newark holds special summer program for youth

An enrichment program for children in Newark between the ages of 7 and 14 years old is being held at a selection of elementary schools in the city.

This program is designed to provide opportunities for learning in several subjects in advance of the upcoming school year.

This program, called the “Back Together Again Summer Enrichment Twilight Program,” is a partnership of the city of Newark, the Newark Board of Education, and the outreach group United Community Corporation (UCC). It will be held five days a week from 2:00 to 8:00 pm and will run for five weeks.

Among the areas to be covered during the program are physical fitness, zoology, dance, and STEAM (science, engineering, technology, art, and mathematics) subjects. A snack and dinner will be served each day. The last week of the program will be for celebrating the students and ensuring they are prepared for the academic year. Brochure printing can be used to provide parents with more details about such programs.

Yolanda Loney, UCC Director of Youth and Senior Services at UCC, said that this summer camp is important for the young people in the city as it will have a positive impact on their social-emotional and academic development. Loney added that the students’ summer experiences will be more structured so that they are more likely to stay out of trouble and be more focused and engaged.
