Officials at Newark Liberty International Airport recently announced that service will be offered by Allegiant Air, beginning in November.
Allegiant said that flights will be available between Newark and Savannah, Georgia; Cincinnati, Ohio; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Asheville, North Carolina. Two flights a day will run during the morning hours.
According to the vice president for network and pricing for Allegiant, Lukas Johnson, this is something that has been in the works for several years and the airline is now very happy to serve the metropolitan area of New York.
The price of a one-way ticket will be as low as $39, although Allegiant adds extra fees for certain facilities and perks. Using a credit card or booking flights online can add to the price of a ticket. Depending on the length of a flight, selecting a seat in advance can cost between $5 and $75 each way, and placing a suitcase in an overhead bin van cost between $10 and $25 each way. The amount of legroom is one to two inches less than is the case at other full-service airlines.
Allegiant might consider flyer printing services so these charges are outlined for its customers when they wish to book a flight.
The arrival of Allegiant at Newark may lead to a decrease in the price of fares charged by other airlines flying in and out of the airport.
