Mural of renowned singer to be erected in Newark

Officials in Newark have announced that a mosaic tribute to Whitney Houston will be created in the downtown area. It will be on Williams Street and on the façade of William House, a new multiple-use project.

Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform the community of such special projects.

Powerful singer Houston was born and raised in the city, attended Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell, and also lived in Mendham Township and East Orange. Houston sold over 200 million combined singles, albums, and videos internationally throughout her career.

Pat Houston, the executor of Whitney’s estate, said that this presence of Whitney is an honor for her legacy. She added that the mural will help to continue her legend as she will be remembered as one of the greatest voices of all times. A senior vice president at the Prudential Center, Natasha Moody, said that it will be an honor to bring this mural to the city, working with Newark Arts, Baldwin Equities, the Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District, and the city.

The mural will be 19 feet by 28 feet and will include over 1,000lb of glass. The artist is Maude Lemaire, who has been previously commissioned by Jersey City and Newark to create several works of mosaics in various locations in both cities.

The mural is scheduled to be unveiled later this month.
