What's Happening in Newark, NJ…

Mixed-use development to come to Newark

A used-car dealership in the North Ward of Newark will be replaced by a six-story mixed-use building.

The development will be on Broadway between Chester and Delaware Avenues. In addition to the used-car dealership, the property has three wood-framed homes in the southern portion of the site. The developer of this project, Sergio Caban, said that this will be a step towards further revitalization and development along the Broadway corridor.

There will be close to 4,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor of the development along with 14 parking spaces. There will be 75 residential units, with 11 units having two bedrooms and 64 units with one bedroom. Caban said it is too early for rental prices to be set but they will be priced fairly in comparison to the other apartments in the area.

There will also be a gym, a community room, a patio, and a parking garage as part of the mixed-use building. Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform residents of such upcoming projects.

Caban said that the North Ward is lacking in terms of redevelopment, adding that the proposed project is on a large empty lot so that the project will help to revitalize the area and encourage more small businesses to be established along Broadway in the North Ward.
