Library opens to children in Newark residence

King George Village in Newark recently opened a library for children on the property, giving the young residents access to 2,800 Books.

Students from Rutgers University and staff from the YMCA of Newark will operate the library, which will be opened three afternoons a week. The employees of L+M Development Partners and PSE&G donated the 2,800 Books.

L+M Development Partners also is planning to open an afterschool program at King George Village in the fall. It is also working with Newark Community Street Team so that supportive and safe services can be brought to the community.

CEO of the Newark YMCA, Michael Bright, said that the YMCA is excited about its partnership with C+C, PSE&G, and L+M in making a suitable library available to young people at the residential community.

Currently, renovations are underway to upgrade 60 vacant apartments, after which common areas, apartment interiors, outdoor areas, and lobbies will be refurbished. Once these projects are completed, King George Village will be an apartment complex with 24 three-story garden-style walk-ups and two 18-storey high-rise building, throughout a total of 422 units.

Printing companies can be used by those involved in this type of library project to create Flyers and other materials. These can be distributed throughout the complex to inform families about the library and the other planned activities.
