NJII Venture Studio, the seventh Strategic Innovation Center (SIC) in the state, will be coming to Newark.
SICs are research centers or incubators which support innovation, entrepreneurship, research and development, with networking opportunities, mentorship, support services for businesses, hands-on training, and educational opportunities. Local Print shops are often involved in such endeavors to assist with business card printing and other business printing services.
Governor Phil Murphy said that this SIC will focus on commercializing intellectual property of an information technology nature. The New Jersey Innovation Institute and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) are partners in this endeavor as well as important academic institutions.
NJII Venture Studio will be in the Paul Profeta Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. It will endeavor to launch two to three startups a year over the next four years and will provide operating services, physical space, the training needed in business, and guidance to transform research projects into products and services that are commercially viable. NJIT will provide access to intellectual property and resources at the university to help with the launch and development of participating companies.
Murphy added that the NJII Venture Studio will provide those who aspire to be entrepreneurs with the chance to collaborate with industry experts and access to cutting-edge technology. He said that this initiative reinforces the reputation of the state as a hub for innovation and research.
