Shereef Elnahal, the health commissioner of the state of New Jersey, was recently appointed as the new president and CEO of University Hospital in Newark.
Elnahal will start his position on July 15, replacing Judy Persichilli, who has been interim president and CEO since December 2018. The community can be made aware of such announcements through Print shops which can create mailers and Flyers to be sent out to residents.
Although the hospital has been underperforming in certain ratings, Elnahal has expressed his wishes to maintain high hopes for its operations. The hospital is comprised of campus-based clinics and serves 250,000 outpatients and 17,000 inpatients each year.
Elnahal added that he plans to make the hospital one that the community will be able to trust and become the pride of the city. Its academic missions, community, and healthcare can all come together to make it an excellent hospital. He added that this is his promise and pledge to the community.
Having served as acting health commissioner for Governor Phil Mulphy, he said he also feels privileged to be able to continue his service to the state in its only public hospital.
Chairman of the Board of the hospital, Tanya Freeman, expressed her confidence that Elnahal will be able to lead the hospital forward in a strategic direction towards positive change.
