The Leapfrog Group has awarded A Hospital Safety Grade A to Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark.
Saint Michael’s Medical Center is the only hospital in the city and Essex County to receive this award and is the fifth time in the last six periods that it has earned such an award. The Leapfrog Group is an organization that grades hospitals across the country. The grades from Leapfrog are based on over 30 performance measures reflecting accidents, injuries, errors, and infections, as well as the systems that hospitals use to prevent them.

The CEO of Saint Michael’s, Dr. Alan Sickles, said that earning this grade from the Leapfrog Group for patient safety demonstrates the solid commitment of the team to providing the highest quality care to its patients. He added that this reflects the dedication of everyone to creating a healing and safe environment for all patients all the time. He expressed his pride in this accomplishment and the hospital will continue to make quality, safety, and excellence a high priority in everything that is done at the hospital.
The Patient Safety Excellence Award for 2024 was also bestowed on Saint Michael’s by Healthgrades. This places the hospital in the top 10 percent of all hospitals across the country for patient safety.
