The annual Gospelfest, sponsored by McDonald’s, will be making its eighth appearance at the Prudential Center in Newark.
The event is a competition of talented singers that features those of all ages and cultures. There are a variety of categories in which performers will compete, some of which include Youth Choir, Adult Choir, Soloists, and Gospel Comedians.
Auditions were held in January and those who will be performing will share the stage with top quartets and choirs in the country, such as the Greater Allen AME Cathedral Mass Choir, The Five Blind Boys of Alabama, the Clark Sisters and Mighty Clouds of Joy.
According to A. Curtis Farrow, producer and director of the Gospelfest and an Emmy Award-winning producer, this year’s concert returns to the basics of gospel music and will be celebrating choirs. He adds that those who enjoy listening to a good choir will want to come to this concert, which will be filled with excitement and energy. The best gospel choirs in the country will be heading to Newark to join with the leading quartets in celebration.
