The Downtown Newark Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration is coming to the Prudential Center Championship Plaza.
Blu Cantrell and Sunshine Anderson, who are rhythm and blues soul singers, will be presenting a free concert after the lighting of the tree at 6:00 pm. Also featured during the celebration are a bouncy house for the kids, many carnival games, a trackless train and free pictures with Santa, Rudolph, Olaf (from ‘Frozen’), and The Minions. There will also be children’s characters and Victorian carolers, who lead the crowd in rousing renditions of holiday favorites. The New Jersey Devils will host a synthetic ice-skating rink.
The tree, measuring 40 feet in height, will be lit by Anthony McMillan, CEO of the Newark Downtown District; Hugh Weber, President of the New Jersey Devils; and Gayle Chaneyfield Jenkins, Central Ward Councilwoman.
This holiday celebration is among the largest of its kind in the state of New Jersey. Last year, more than 3,000 people from all over the state came to participate in the event.
The festivities are planned for today, December 6 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, rain, snow, or shine. The city might benefit from the assistance of a poster printing company to promote this third annual event by means of Posters that can be displayed throughout the city, and in surrounding communities.
