Cultural hub to come to museum in Newark

The Newark City Council has approved the construction of a cultural hub at the Newark Museum of Art, to be called Museum Parc.

This project will include retail space, 250 apartments, and a gallery. It will be developed by L+M Development Partners LLC. Of the 250 apartments, 50 will be designated as affordable housing and the remaining 200 units will be offered at market rate. There will be 2,598 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, while the gallery will span 4,216 square feet and will be run and leased by the Newark Art Gallery.

The project will also include outdoor amenities, including renovations to the education wing of the museum and a more visible sculpture garden. There will also be an extension of the contemporary galleries of the museum with a new facility on the street level for both public programming and contemporary exhibitions. Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform residents of upcoming projects to be developed.

Senior director at LMXD LLC, a part of L+M Development Partners LLC, Jake Pine, said that this campus will bring mixed-income housing to the heart of the Arts and Education district of Newark.

Martin F. Dowd, the attorney for the Newark Museum, said that construction is expected to begin by late summer or early fall.
