The Newark Black Film Festival will be held for the 35th year, beginning later this month.
According to Gloria Hopkins Buck, chair of the festival, its goal is to present films and programs that portray the past and present experiences of the Black community, and to provide a wide range of film types, from avant-garde to documentaries.
The Newark Museum began its production of the festival in 1974, and nine years ago was joined by the Bank of America as a sponsor. The event runs for a six-week period of time at several venues in Newark and Trenton. There have been 676 films in the past 34 years of the festival, with audiences of over 157,000 children and adults. A presentation and public discussion with filmmakers and artists follows each screening.
The use of local Print companies to create colorful and informative Flyers listing all the films and other events is one way the organizers of the film festival can get the word out to the community.
The movie ‘Cosmic Slop’, an Afro-centric Twilight Zone-inspired trilogy, will open the festival for the 15th year at the Newark Museum on Wednesday June 24, followed by another screening which will open the festival at the New Jersey State Museum in Trenton on the evening of June 25.
Other upcoming films include ‘This is My Africa’, ‘A Place Out of Time: The Bordentown School’, segments from ‘The Birth of a Nation’, and “Within Our Gates”.Get a Free Quote for Print Get a Free Quote for Flyers
