Newark Arts recently gave 19 community organizations and individuals mini-grants to create theatre, dance, and visual and literary art projects that will benefit the neighborhoods and residents of Newark.
Newark Arts is a nonprofit organization that is the foundation for the creative arts community in the city. Executive Director Jeremy Johnson, said that the arts can transform the lives of people in the city. The grant program, ArtStart, gave out $55,100 this year which was twice the amount given out last year and has grown by 36% overall, awarding more than $500,000 in grant money since its inception.
Among the projects that have been funded for this year are a program that helps educators and school leaders to bring professional artists into the classrooms of Newark; a bilingual program in English and Spanish about children engaged in the creative arts; dance classes for children between the ages of three and five, offered by AMB Groovy Tots, featuring different dance styles such as hip-hop, jazz, and ballet; and a program for young people to work with local artists in creating two murals in select locations in Newark in conjunction with Painting it Forward.
Programs such as these often carry out banner printing and display these Banners to inform the community of funding and its benefits to residents, businesses, and others.
