New Jersey theater to present five musicals for this years season

The Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn has announced the shows for the 2019-2020 season. Residents of Livingston will no doubt want to attend some of these performances.

Such announcements are often promoted throughout the community and surrounding areas through banner printing.

The first show will be “Chasing Rainbows: The Road to Oz” and is the story of how Judy Garland, nee Frances Gumm, rose from an early career in vaudeville at the age of five to the star role of Dorothy in the film, “The Wizard of Oz.” The show opens at the end of the month.

For the holiday season, the Playhouse will present “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” a family musical that should delight people of all ages. Featured will be many favorite songs, magical scenes, and the iconic glass slippers.

The winter performance at the Playhouse will be “Unmasked: The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber,” a world-premiere musical that recounts the works and life of Webber. Songs included will be some rediscovered popular tunes and new material with a history of Webber’s story and the creation of these songs.

The spring performance will be “Sister Act,” a Tony-nominated musical about Deloris Van Cartier and her conflicts with cloistered life in a convent. The final performance of the season will be the musical “The Wanderers” about Dion DiMucci and his rise to fame in the 1950s and 1960s.
