A fundraiser was recently held by Shaniyah White, a teenager from Livingston, so a laptop could be donated to the Senior, Youth and Leisure Services (SYLS) department for senior programming.
During the SYLS Senior Adult Forum that is held every year, White held a bake sale that raised sufficient funds to purchase and donate the laptop. Printing services can be used to create displays throughout the community so that people learn more about such fundraising efforts and their goals.
Mayor Al Anthony expressed his pleasure in meeting someone like White who is special due to her fundraising ability and generosity. He added that such acts of kindness make him feel good about today’s youth and their futures.
White is both a fundraiser and entrepreneur. She has spoken at many events and raised funds for other organizations. Her non-profit organization, called Born to Rise Foundation, Inc., has the mission to provide mentorship to youth that will help them to develop their leadership skills and uncover their purpose and passion in the world.
In addition to her fundraising efforts, she is a coach, volunteering for the Essex Special Skaters charity program and also volunteers at the Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors food pantry. Currently she is training skaters for this summer’s Championship Figure Skating Camp in West Orange at the Richard J. Cody Arena.
