A middle school teacher from West Orange has been named by the Barnes and Noble in Livingston as the winner of the ‘My Favorite Teacher Contest’ for 2017.
A ceremony was recently held at the store to honor Aliki Salamone of Roosevelt Middle School in West Orange. Banners are often displayed at stores to let the community become aware of honors like this.
To nominate a teacher, students were asked to write poems, essays, or thank-you letters describing the influence the teacher has had on their lives and reasons for their admiration and appreciation of the teacher. Judging of the entries was based on the quality of expression and writing, the sincerity of the appreciation by the students, and the compelling nature of the qualities of the teacher.
Salamone is now eligible for the regional competition, and if she wins that one, she can move on to the one that is based across the country.
The Favorite Teacher Contest, which Barnes and Noble sponsors, provides an opportunity for middle and high school students to inform their communities of their appreciation for their teachers. Those who can be nominated need to be teachers in either public or private elementary, middle, or high schools. Both the teachers and their schools receive awards in the form of cash prizes and other accolades.
