Health conference near Livingston

An upcoming conference for members of the higher education community will focus on mental health.

The New Jersey Higher Education Mental Health Summit will take place in South Orange, a short distance from Livingston. The day includes individual breakout sessions, a resource fair, and a keynote speech by Darryl McDaniels of RUN DMC.

The purpose of the summit is to bring front-line practitioners and leaders from universities and colleges throughout New Jersey for a day so they can share best practices, and learn from each other about what works and what does not when it comes to mental health issues on campus. The goal is to ensure students are getting the support they need.

Darryl “DMC” McDaniels is a music pioneer who has changed the history of music. He is the co-founder of Run-DMC, the first rap group ever to be featured on the cover of “Rolling Stone” Magazine. Run-DMC has sold more than 40 million albums, won a Grammy nomination, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. McDaniels is a passionate advocate for mental health, and has written two best-selling autobiographies including the startingly titled “Ten Ways Not To Commit Suicide,” a reference to his own mental health struggles.

The conference is on January 10, from 9.00 am until 5.00 pm, at Seton Hall University in South Orange, a short distance from Livingston. Events like this offer attendees the opportunity to network with peers, and are the perfect place to exchange Business Cards.
