Delicious holiday fair planned near Livingston

A holiday fair centered on a specific culture and cuisine is coming up in Montclair, a short distance from Livingston.

The New Jersey chapter of the Swedish Women’s Educational Association (SWEA) is hosting its 37th annual Swedish Christmas Fair, which will give attendees a chance to enjoy home-baked goods such as cakes, cookies, and bread, and to shop for traditional Swedish decorations, Books, and linens.

They can also stop in at a market where they will find Swedish foods such as candy, herring, cheeses, and more. The traditional spiced drink, glögg, usually serve at the holidays, will also be available. When these types of events are planned, organizers can use poster printing to create suitable publicity.

Activities for younger children are planned, and there will be raffles as well, with unique prizes. The highlight of the afternoon, however, is the Lucia Pageant, which is part of a long-standing practice in Sweden. On December 13, young women wear white dresses and carry candles; the one who is representing Lucia has a crown of candles in her hair. These were once real candles but are now more likely to be LED lights. They give performances at nursing homes, schools, and offices to celebrate bringing light into the winter darkness.

The Swedish Christmas Fair is scheduled for November 20 at the Commonwealth Club, 26 Northview Avenue in Upper Montclair. Approximately 1,000 people are expected to attend.
