The New Life Family Walkathon recently took place in Jersey City for the 23rd consecutive year. The event was organized by the International WeLoveU Foundation, whose goal is to support those affected by disasters due to climate change, raise awareness of this issue, and educate those in developing countries.
The three-mile walk took place in Liberty State Park, located on the Upper New York Bay in Jersey City. Located across from Liberty Island and Ellis Island, walkers were able to enjoy breathtaking views of the New York City skyline. Organizers of these sorts of events often use poster printing to draw attention to their occurrence and their fundraising efforts.
The event included not only the walk but exhibits and family activities prior to it, and a lunch for everyone after the walk. Water was provided so that walkers could stay hydrated.
The benefits of this year’s walk went to support disaster relief efforts in Mozambique. The Southern African country was hit by two cyclones this spring, which devastated the central and northern areas of the country. Many people lost their lives and the country’s infrastructure experienced severe damage.
Carlos Dos Santos, Ambassador of Mozambique to the United States, expressed his gratefulness for this event as $50,000 was raised in Jersey City, adding that this will have a great impact on his country in its efforts to rebuild.
