New tech-based high school planned in Jersey City

A project development agreement for the location of the Liberty Science High School in SciTechScity has been authorized by the Jersey City Council.

An agreement was established in November 2020 between the Hudson County Schools of Technology and Liberty Science Center to establish a partnership for a new high school. The agreement also guarantees that at least 60% of the students attending the school be from Jersey City. The goal of this school is to connect students with the innovators, scientists, and entrepreneurs who would be in SciTechCity.

A Memorandum of Understanding was passed in March 2021 by the Hudson County Board of Commissioners that authorized the construction and operation of the school. The Board agreed at the time to pay $2m a year to the Hudson County Schools of Technology towards the operation of the new school.

The curriculum at the new school will include courses in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and will feature a program of work education that will involve over 200 technology start-up companies in SciTechCity. Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about such curricula and work-education programs for potential students.

Construction of the school is expected to begin this year, and the year of completion for the school project is likely to be either 2024 or 2025.
