New Jersey to build new firehouse

Ground has been broken on a new firehouse on Grand Street in the Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood of Jersey City.

A now decommissioned facility of the Jersey City Fire Department that was originally used equipment led by horses will be replaced with this new firehouse. The new facility will span 12,000 square feet and be a state-of-the-art space with a cost of $5.6m. Banner printing is often placed at such sites to announce such new facilities to the community.

The firehouse will have dual bays that will be able to accommodate three apparatuses and will also feature housing for firefighters, turnout gear, and advanced hose extraction and decontamination equipment. There will also be communal spaces that will be used for offices and training exercises.

This Engine 10 and Ladder 12 firehouse will be the first such new facility in the city in 20 years. Steve, Fulop, mayor of Jersey City, said that the city is committed to bringing renewed opportunities to areas in the city of greatest needs and this is a key community where the residents deserve such an asset. He added that the new firehouse will add to the critical resources the growing Bergen-Lafayette area needs and will expand public safety for both the firefighters and the community.

It is expected that construction on the firehouse will be completed by next summer.
