A new luxury high rise consisting of 361 units has been approved by local legislators to be built in the Bergen-Lafayette section of Jersey City.
The project will be built on Communipaw Avenue, which was once occupied by Steel Technologies. It will become the first residential development of significance that abuts an economically depressed part of the city.
The developer for the project, to be called Morris Canal Park Manor, will be the Skyline development Group. The developer plans to build on the site a structure two stories in height and spanning 22,000 square feet. The structure will have dance and music studios, a wall for rock climbing, a sauna, and a gym as well as classrooms for instruction on science, technology, engineering, and math and computer labs. The building will also have eight commercial working spaces for business enterprises that are minority-run. Of the 361 units, 18 will qualify as affordable. Print shops are often hired to provide more details about such recreational and instruction centers and their amenities.
Concerns about this project have centered around the expansion of Berry Lane Park which is next to the proposed project; those with this viewpoint claim that the property was originally intended for such use. However, there community groups, such as the Morris Canal Coalition in Ward F, who are also very excited about the project.
