Jersey City offers free bicycle storage for residents

A new partnership between Jersey City and bike parking solution Oonee will provide free bicycle storage 24 hours a day, seven days a week for cyclists in Jersey City. Oonee, based in Brooklyn, focuses on building high quality streetscape services and infrastructure.

Mayor Steven Fulop said this is part of the mobility efforts of his administration to reduce vehicular traffic and provide green options for commuting, with storage locations strategically placed around the busiest transportation hubs in the city.

The first two bike storage locations will be at McGinley Square and at the Danforth Light Rail Station. As part of the initial phase of this endeavor, this will be followed by secure locations for over 80 bikes at Exchange Place, the Grove Street PATH Station, the Newport PATH Station, and Washington and Montgomery Streets. Once these locations have been established, there will be 24 more secure bike parking stations throughout Jersey City.

Oonee has a mobile app, or residents can sign up for a free online account. Brochure printing can be used to provide more information about such new offerings and reserving spots, as well as details about future locations.

CEO of Oonee, Shabazz Stuart, expressed his delight in delivering this service to the city. He added that secure bike parking is an important part of a thriving cycling ecosystem.
