The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) has awarded a grant of $26m to improve a stretch of two miles of Route 7 in Hudson County.
Route 7 connects the counties of Bergen, Hudson, and Essex, and runs from Jersey City to Belleville. As a major part of Route 7 spans the Hackensack River, the highway often experiences a great deal of flooding.
The funds will be used to make drainage improvements along the highway, including raising the roadway by about three and a half feet. Also to be installed will be new pipes, three pumping stations, inlet structures, and flood walls. Local Print shops often assist in spreading the word about such improvements to major highways through the use of Flyers and other printed materials.
These Infrastructure For Rebuilding America grants from the USDOT fund highway and freight projects that have importance for the country and improve reliability and safety, help to protect the environment, enhance the resiliency of highway infrastructure, and generate regional or national economic benefits.
Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr. said that these funds will have a significant positive impact for the region and the state. He added that Route 7 is important for connecting many of the largest counties in the state, but the highway often floods so it is imperative that drivers on this highway are afforded a safe path to their destinations. These funds will enable construction to get started.
