Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theater will be the host to the annual year-end art show, which features work by the top high school artists in Jersey City.
The artwork is done by those students in the public schools who participated in the Jersey City Arts Program (JC Arts). This program employs a specially designed curriculum in portfolio development and technical skills so that students can apply for, attend, and be successful in college. Students apply for the program and advance to the next year upon meeting the proficiencies of the curricula each preceding year.
There is work from over 75 student artists, including 17 who are graduating this year. Art Teacher Peter Yuscavage said the graduates have earned $3.1m in scholarships based on the merit of their artwork. The Ringling School of Art and Design, Pratt Institute, the Rhode Island School of Design, and Rutgers University are among some of the schools these students will be attending.
Exhibits such as this one often use poster printing to promote themselves and the accomplishments of their participants.
There will be an opening reception this Thursday, June 6 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The exhibit will be open to the public this Friday and Saturday with hours from noon until 7:00 pm on both days. There is no charge for admission.
