Jersey City begins work on streetscape project

The Department of Infrastructure, members of the City Council, and mayor Steven Fulop of Jersey City recently broke ground on the Coles Street and 12th Street Streetscape project. This project is designed to create a more usable and safer public space with additional improvements that will meet the needs of both visitors and residents.

Mayor Fulop said that this improvement project is a priority that will safely connect the neighborhoods near the other side of the Holland Tunnel entrance near 12th Street, the Embankment House, and Holland Gardens with reconstructed crosswalks and sidewalks, a new raised bikeway, various safety improvements, and utility upgrades.

Other features of the project will include stormwater drainage and flood mitigation; improvements to lighting; a permanent skate park; and landscaping and tree beautification. Local Print shops can be helpful is creating Flyers and other printed materials to highlight the features and benefits of such projects.

Ward E Councilman James Solomon said that this project is more than just a sidewalk and concrete. He explained that it will transform the space for residents that will foster community, provide a space that they can use, and further the commitment to a better and more connected Jersey City.

The important utility and infrastructure work that is part of the initial phase of the project has already been completed by the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority.
