The City of Jersey City has acquired the Port Liberte Ferry Terminal and is looking to award a contract for ferry services to NYWaterway.
This will promote ridership, restore ferry service outside of downtown, and ensure that residents of communities with low and moderate incomes have access to efficient and affordable transportation options. The ferry service will be available from the southernmost coast of the city in Greenville during the weekdays.
Local Print shops can help to Print Flyers and other materials with schedules of such services once they have been established.
Mayor Steven Fulop said the city acquired the ferry terminal so it could provide better access for residents from Greenville to Bergen-Lafayette, and help to subsidize rates. Fulop said that the city will use $4m of grant funding from the state to discount fares by 40% each way.
He added that the Port Liberte Ferry Terminal had been an asset which was underutilized. He said that this new contract will provide access for residents to the terminal who may not have previously been able to use ferry services, and will help to make the most of this existing resource.
Enhanced transit service to the Ferry Terminal from the community of Greenville will also be provided by the city through its on-demand micro-transit service, and stations for Citi Bikes, which will be expanded in the Greenville neighborhood.
