Three new stores are coming to Freehold; one just opened and two more are on the way.
Wawa, a convenience store, recently opened on Route 9, and is the 20th Wawa to be located in Monmouth County. It will be the anchor store of a new shopping center located at Elton-Adelphia Road and Route 9. In addition to Wawa, Taco Bell and Chick-fil-A, both with drive-thru lanes, are almost ready to open. Taco Bell is scheduled to open before the end of the year, but Chick-fil-A has not announced its opening.
Wawa was opened by company executives, local officials, emergency responders from Freehold, and representatives of Freehold Township High School. T-Shirts were given to the first 100 customers. As part of the event, Wawa recognized heroes in the fire and police departments, and members of the first aid squad. The first responders had a chance to compete in Wawa’s “Hoagies for Heroes” competition, in which teams build hoagies. The company made a $1,000 donation to the charity of choice of each department. Banner printing can be used to create opening celebration decorations for events like this.
The new Wawa will feature some of the company’s latest innovations such as pasta, burgers, “heat and eat meals,” and a new dinner menu.
A retail center covering 12,600 square feet, including a restaurant of 3,000 square feet, has already been approved on the site, but construction has not yet begun.
