Five-piece band brings joy to Freehold

A group that sees music as a force for bringing people together is on the way to Freehold.

Lake Street Dive is a five-piece ensemble that was founded in Boston in 2004, at the New England Conservatory of Music. The founding members were Mike Calabrese, Bridget Kearney, Mike “McDuck” Olson, and Rachael Price, with Akie Bermiss joining the group in 2017, and James Cornelison joining in 2021. Price, Calabrese, and Kearney are still with the group.

The group has become known for its eclectic sound, a blend of classic pop, jazz, folk, soul, and more that is typical of the band’s wide-ranging taste and enables them to connect with audiences. They also find a connection because their material often considers contemporary issues that are of concern to everyone including feelings of isolation, and the unchecked growth of technology.

Lake Street Dive has released eight studio albums, with 2024’s “Good Together” winning them a Grammy nomination. The societal issues that concern the band were present in the album, which is both joyous and defiant.

Also appearing at the concert is The Dip, an R&B/funk band that was founded in Seattle in 2013 by music students at the University of Washington. They have released four albums thus far and appeared at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in 2023.

Lake Street Dive and their guests The Dip will appear at the ParkStage in East Freehold on August 1. When they plan concerts like this, organizers can create advertising using poster printing.
