Freehold to host party with German accent

An upcoming event in Freehold has a German flair that organizers of events like these can enhance when they use banner printing to create colorful decorations.

Downtown Freehold is presenting the city’s 4th Annual Oktoberfest, a traditional street festival that will turn West Main Street into a celebration of community spirit, along with beer, food, and music. The festival dates from October 12, 1810, when Munich officials invited the public to celebrate the marriage of Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen and Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria, creating a tradition that has spread worldwide.

Freehold’s version includes a larger beer garden featuring local favorite beers from the Tall Oaks Farm & Brewery, Birdsmouth Beer, Seven Sons Brewing, and Twin Lights Brewing. Vendors will be on hand with specialty items, games, craft items, and different food options. Seating will be available so people can relax in comfort and enjoy the entertainment.

This year, entertainment will be at the Beer Garden, with performances all day by The Swedish Meatballs, and Pat Guadagno & Richard Blackwell. The Swedish Meatballs are headed by accordionist Ellen Lindstrom, who carries on Swedish musical traditions by making appearances throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, New England, and the New York Tri-State area. Pau Guadagno and Richard Blackwell are solo artists but often perform together, with Guadagno on the guitar and Blackwell on conga drums, and they have appeared at other events in Freehold.

The celebration is on Sunday, October 4 from 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm on West Main Street.
