Freehold, New Jersey, will be celebrating Memorial Day with a parade, a tradition for the city.
The Freehold Memorial Day Parade is the largest and oldest parade of its type in the area, with an average of over 70 units taking part annually. Youth groups, EMS squads, fire departments, bands, veterans’ groups, military units, civilian units, and custom floats often take part.
To allow participants to form up and march safely, the city will close many streets, either entirely or in part. They are Main Street, Berkeley Place, Brinkerhoff Avenue, Prospect Place, Kiawah Avenue, Yard Avenue, Stillwell Place, Schank Street, Murray Street, Henry Street, Broadway, Spring Street, Morris Street, South Street, Court Street, Throckmorton Street, Manalapan Avenue, Lincoln Place, Hull Avenue, Broad Street, and Monument Street.
The closures begin at 8.00 am on the day of the parade, and no through or local traffic will be allowed after that time. The roads will remain closed until 12.30 pm. Parking is also prohibited anywhere on the parade route, so everyone should plan accordingly.
The parade route starts at the corner of Main Street and Brinkerhoff Avenue and follows Main Street to the town center. It continues on Broadway, Murray, Schank Street and Monument Street and ends in the Monmouth County Courthouse parking lot.
The Memorial Day Parade is scheduled for May 26. When they plan an outdoor event like this, organizers often use banner printing to create sturdy signage that marks the parade route.
