A local merchant recently announced that they have scheduled a holiday event and are inviting everyone to take part.
Freehold Ford is holding its Annual Santa Charity Event and invites members of the community to give back by collecting toys for donation to Toys for Tots. The event includes a chance to have photos taken with Santa and enjoy some light refreshments.
The main reason for the gathering is to collect toys, which should be either new, or unused; no broken or dirty items, please.
Toys for Tots has been part of the holidays for decades. The practice dates to 1947, when Diane Hendricks, the wife of a Marine Corps Reserve officer, Major Bill Hendricks, wanted to gift a doll to a child in need, but couldn’t find an organization to help. Major Hendricks got a number of reservists together and collected about 5,000 toys. Toys for Tots was born and became a mission of the Marine Corps Reserve. In 1991, the Secretary of Defense approved the creation of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, which is now responsible for the drive, freeing reservists for other duties.
The event is scheduled for December 12, from 11.00 am until 2.00 pm, at Freehold Ford, located at 3572 U.S. 9, and is free for everyone to enjoy. Festive events like this benefit when organizers use poster printing to create appropriately themed advertisements to support them.
