The Monmouth County Diversity Alliance, Inc., is presenting a Juneteenth celebration that will take place in the city’s downtown. Vendors will be on hand, and there will be music and food, with live entertainment provided by Valerie Adams & The Dimension Band.
The group is a party band that plays anniversaries, corporate events, weddings, and similar celebrations, They specialize in rock, funk, jazz, Motown, soul, current hits, and more, and have performed throughout the world in places like Europe, and Japan, as well as on various cruise lines.
In addition, they have collaborated with stars like Queen Latifa, James Brown, the Drifters, Kool & the Gang, and Gladys Knight and are known for their high-energy concerts. Valarie Adams, the band’s lead singer, and Sam Manigault, the keyboardist, are also members of BT Express, a group known for their Number one hits like “Do It.”
Juneteenth is a portmanteau, a word made of two other words, in this case “June” and “nineteenth,” the date slavery officially ended in the United States. Slavery did not end in all places simultaneously, so the date commemorates the final day, when the Emancipation Proclamation was ordered to be enforced in Texas.
The Juneteenth event is scheduled for June 8, between Throckmorton and Court Street, from 12.00 pm until 5.00 pm. Outdoor events like this can benefit when banner printing is used to create sturdy decorations that work well outdoors.
