Each year, monarch butterflies migrate between their homes in Canada and the U.S.A. to their wintering grounds in Mexico, and Flemington teachers can learn how they can welcome them into their classrooms this summer.
Educators of kids from pre-kindergarten up to grade 12 can participate in the Teaching and Learning with Monarch Butterflies workshop to be held at Duke Farms. It will combine components of math, science, geography, Spanish and other subjects into a two-day hands-on event that will be all about the winged insects.
The program will include an introduction to the program that will see students raise and release monarch butterflies. They will also discover how to create inviting garden habitats that welcome them and other pollinators into the landscape. The participants will each receive Books, Posters, rearing cages, DVDs, and other materials to help them share what they have learned with their students. They will also be able to access ongoing support. Local Print shops can both design and produce items to use during this type of opportunity.
The training event will be held on August 2 and 3, and registration is now open for anyone who is interested. The fee to participate is $50, and this covers both the teaching and materials. Duke Farm’s Facebook page can be consulted for further information about the event.
