People who have always wanted to become environmental stewards may find that a Flemington activity next month offers them a good starting point.
Quakertown Preserve will be getting some attention thanks to a work session organized by the Hunterdon Land Trust. It will run throughout the morning, and an assortment of jobs need to be done.
Participants will be tackling tasks such as removing invasive shrubs and other woody plants, and this will create more room for native species to grow and thrive. There will also be a guided collection of clippings from dogwoods, such as red osier, for propagation so there will be more native plants to install at a later date. This will help to restore habitat and food species for a variety of birds and other wildlife. Participants may want to wear gloves and good walking shoes.

Those who register for this environmental service project are asked to be on site at the preserve at 9:00 am on August 29.
