Flemington families set to get tapping

Tapping sugar maple trees for their sap is a practice that dates back thousands of years, and this activity, which was first started by Native Americans, will be introduced during a Flemington walking workshop.

The facilitator for the Maple Tree Tapping activity set for Echo Hill Ark will offer hands-on experience in the initial step of making maple syrup, maple sugar and other products. The activity will be very hands on, and a fee of $8.00 is being charged to take part.

Attendees will meet up at the park’s playground before heading to the venue’s sugar bush. Here, they will learn how to identify sugar maples in their winter dress, and they will then find out how to drill the hole without hammering the tree, install the spigot and start collecting the sap to boil down. At least 25 trees will be tapped, and everyone can ask any questions they might have. All ages are welcome, but kids need to participate with an adult.

A walking workshop or other in-person activity may require Copies of handouts as well as signage and other custom materials. Stationery printers regularly help with this sort of work.

This introduction to the art of taping sugar maples for their sweet sap is scheduled for January 18th. Everyone who registered is asked to arrive by no later than 1:00 pm, and at the time this was written, it was still accepting sign-ups.
