A local event may help encourage an attractive species to raise a family here.
Aix sponsa, which are better known as “wood ducks,” are colorful water birds that often raise a family in the woods in and around Flemington. Hunterdon County has organized an activity that will install wood duck nest Boxes at various sites. Registrants will meet up at the South Branch Wings Parking area in Flemington, and the registration fee is $8.
The facilitator for the activity will provide the nesting Boxes, and information will be shared about the ducks and how they make use of holes in trees and other cavities for their nests. As the birds tend to return to the area in March, the participants may even be lucky enough to spot an early arrival, as well as other native waterfowl. Debra Soer will guide the experience, which is for those aged 18 and up.
Providing the public with an opportunity to get involved in hands-on service projects may spark an interest in environmental stewardship. Stationery printers can prepare information sheets to hand out, as well as certificates of thanks to give to the volunteers in acknowledgement of their generous spirit.
This opportunity to do a good turn for wood ducks will be on offer on Sunday, March 8 from 2:00 pm to 3:15 pm. There is enough room for up to eight volunteers.Get a Free Quote for Stationery Get a Free Quote for Boxes
