A Flemington workshop will soon be teaching the value of rain barrels and rain gardens, and it is designed to provide both information and inspiration.
Echo Hill Park will welcome those who register for the Rain Barrel/Rain Garden class, and as it is for those age 13 and up, it can be a learning opportunity for youth to enjoy along with a parent or guardian. The event has been planned for the evening hours, and Raritan Headwaters Association’s Outreach Coordinator Tracy Gordon will share her knowledge with the attendees.
The session will introduce rain barrels and their benefits, including how they can help prevent runoff that may contaminate area bodies of water. A discussion of rain gardens is also on the agenda, and the facilitator will review how to site and construct one, as well as which native plants are well suited to this type of planting. The $83 registration fee covers the cost of the materials for one rain barrel, and these will be assembled during the workshop.
Workshops and other learning activities may require handouts to distribute, and Stationery printers can lend a hand. They can include photos and other full color graphics.
This introduction to rain barrels and rain gardening will begin at 7:00 pm on March 30. A registration link can be found on the Hunterdon County website, and if attending as a family, only one member needs to sign up and pay the materials fee.
