A school garden can be a great way to develop children’s interest in food and where it comes from, and a Flemington area event will share the secrets of getting one up and growing.
Duke Farms has planned a school garden conference, and local educators are welcome to attend. Its goal is to help them learn how they can set up and maintain a plot, and incorporate it into their school’s curriculum.
Those who attend the event will hear from others who have successfully started a school garden, and there will also be a tour of the farms own beds and other growing facilities, including those that are accessible to those with physical challenges.
An assortment of “inspiration stations” will be set up, where the attendees can learn more about composting, seed starting, planning a plot, cooking, and other topics related to horticulture. This will be combined with tips about how these can be added to the school curriculum.
Along with all of this, there will be details provide about different grants and other resources that may be available. Each educator will also receive materials to take home with them, and there will also be prizes and other giveaways. A printing services provider will be able to produce any printed materials needed for a program like this.
The ‘Growing Green Minds: Inspiration through School Gardens’ workshop will be held on April 6 at Duke Farms. More details can be sourced through its Facebook page.
