A special day for children, with an emphasis on wellness, is coming up in Londonderry.
Healthy Kids Day® events have been held across the nation for more than 30 years, always at local YMCAs. The day focuses on wellness, exploration, and fun, and highlights subjects including emotional and mental well-being, the arts, STEM, nutrition education, active physical play, and more. Event organizers are focusing on these qualities because they will help children thrive.
At the local event, the Londonderry Police Department will provide a K9 demonstration, and the Londonderry Fire Department will also be on hand. There will also be sports games, a bounce house, a chance for youngsters to try their hand at archery, face painting, and a game of Gaga Ball, a variation of the traditional game of dodge ball.
Another attraction that will be available is a smoothie bike, which is a somewhat unusual addition to the fitness routine. The apparatus is a stationary bicycle with a unique attachment, a blender. The rider places whatever vegetables and fruit they prefer in the blender, and then start pedaling, using their own power to create the smoothie. The bike provides exercise and nutrition at the same time.
Healthy Kids Day® is May 10, from 10.00 am until 1.00 pm, at the YMCA of Greater Londonderry, located at 206 Rockingham Road. When they plan events like this, organizers may work with banner printing to create colorful decorations.
