In a world seemingly dominated by technology, people who want to become skilled in the trades may get lost. An upcoming event in Londonderry hopes to change that.
The F.W. Webb Company, a noted name in the trades, is teaming up with the Londonderry High School, the Rotary Club of Londonderry, and the Londonderry Police Department to present the Bring Back the Trades Skills Expo.
Attendees can learn about the various trades, and perhaps most importantly, talk to people who are professional tradesmen and women. Fields available include construction, electrical work, HVAC, plumbing, and more. Each of these broad categories has many subsets. For instance, construction includes roofing, plumbing, brick laying, painting, carpentry, electrical work, pipefitting, masonry, HVAC, cabinet making, and steam fitting.
Trades in the transportation sector include marine technicians, commercial truck operators, and heavy equipment operators; while the manufacturing sector includes sheet metal working, machining, and tool and die making.
Finally, the service sector includes landscaping, food service, safety and health inspectors, computer support, EMTs, and others.
Bring Back the Trades is a nonprofit, national organization that promotes the skilled trades as fulfilling, essential, and accessible careers. The organization frequently holds community events to showcase these options. It also provides scholarships and strategic partnerships to assist those interested in the trades.
The skills expo is scheduled for April 18 at 9.00 am, at Londonderry High School. Events like this benefit when organizers use poster printing to create advertising for them.
