Music invasion Londonderry can celebrate

An upcoming concert in Derry, next door to Londonderry, celebrates an invasion that people still remember because it brought a new wave of music “across the pond.”

The “British Invasion” refers to the period in the mid-1960s when pop and rock musicians from the UK became popular in the US. The most notable of the acts, of course, was the Beatles, who multiple sources say remain the best-selling band of all time, but they were far from the only band that won American fans. The Rolling Stones as well as soloists like Dusty Springfield were part of the movement.

Now The British Invasion Years is coming to the Tupelo Music Hall, where they will perform the hits that characterized those years, from both the British bands and the American groups that answered them.

The Beatles are probably the first group that comes to mind, but the “invasion” also included The Moody Blues, The Who, The Kinks, and others. The music scene in the US responded with groups like Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Steppenwolf, The Beach Boys, and others. The performance will include the biggest hits of all the groups, winding up with a finale of Beatles classics performed as if the Fab Four themselves were on stage.

The British Invasion Years is scheduled for November 7, and the music hall is at 10 A Street in Derry. Show like this benefit when the organizers work with poster printing, which creates colorful advertising.
