Running for fun and funds in Londonderry

A race in Londonderry will welcome spring while raising funds to support a local attraction.

The Aviation Museum of New Hampshire is organizing the 3rd annual “Run the Rail Trail 5-Miler,” which begins and ends at the museum and is a fundraiser for the organization. The event is a run/walk race that leads participants through Londonderry, including the newest part of the Londonderry Rail Trail.

The route begins at the Aviation Museum, which is the old terminal building built in 1937. The first part of the course is on city streets, before it transitions to a forest path over undeveloped land. It then continues along a 1.2-mile stretch of the Londonderry Rail Trail, which was just opened, and leads through the Little Cohas Brook Reservoir area. From there, the course returns to the museum. Since part of the trail is an unimproved path in the forest, the event is not suitable for people with strollers. When outdoor events like this are planned, organizers will often work with banner printing to create signage to mark the course.

The race is scheduled for May 4, beginning at 9.00 am, and is open to everyone, walkers, and runners alike. The first 100 people to register will receive a T-shirt. Money raised will go to support the youth education programs at the Aviation Museum, which is a non-profit organization. The programs include summer camps and plane-building projects in New Hampshire.
