Runners have an opportunity to challenge themselves soon, in an upcoming run in Derry, Londonderry’s neighbor.

What organizers are calling the “Cheap Marathon” is an out-and-back race over the Derry & Windham Rail Trail. Those running the full marathon will make two loops, while those doing the half-marathon will only need to go around once. The course is fast and flat, and should make for an exciting event. The time limit for the marathon is 6 hours, 30 minutes.

The race uses a Time Trial Start. Those running the full marathon will start at 7.30 am, with two athletes starting simultaneously every six seconds. Those running the half marathon will begin their time trials at 8.50 am, with two athletes starting simultaneously at 15-second intervals.

During registration, organizers will collect pace data on the runners, which will enable them to “seed” the participants from fastest to slowest, which will determine where their group, bib number, and starting position. Runners should be in their assigned positions at the time the race starts. Bib numbers and start times will be available two days before the race.

Runners can pick up their bibs early if they wish, or on the day of the race. The start and finish line is at the Derry Rail Trail, located at 1 East Broadway in Derry.

The race is April 6. Organizers of events like this will often use banner printing to create course markers.
