Londonderry to buy Lithia land

After extensive deliberations, Londonderry will purchase a 54-acre parcel of land.

Londonderry’s Conservation Commission advocated for purchasing the land, which once belonged to the Lithia Springs Water Company. The Town Council delayed deciding until they could study what uses might be made of the land. Mike Malaguti, the Town Manager, described the parcel as being an area that can sustain significant development, adding that the town had received many letters in favor of the purchase.

Councilor Deb Paul spoke in favor of the acquisition, saying there are wetlands around those sites suitable for building, and purchasing the area would enable the community to protect these sensitive wetlands. She added she would prefer the entire area to be preserved, rather than allowing any development.

The Chair of the Conservation Committee, Marge Badois, also supported the purchase, calling the property:

“ . . . exceptional on many levels. It’s environmental, historical, and ecological. It would be one of our top acquisitions.”

She added that the property is home to many endangered species, including osprey, and that money for the purchase would not come from taxpayers, but instead from funds provided by the Conservation Commission, as well as a grant.

With these details settled, the Londonderry Town Council unanimously approved the purchase. When decisions like these are made that can affect many people, officials can use flyer printing to create a Mailing piece for the local area.
