Classic Japanese art coming to Londonderry

A Londonderry brewing company will host an event that teaches a classic Japanese art.

The Long Blue Cat Brewing Company is holding a Bonsai Bar, where attendees will learn about these trees, and make one for themselves.

Everyone is encouraged to learn about the art of bonsai, which the event organizers are bringing out of neatly trimmed gardens and into one of Londonderry’s favorite breweries, where people can enjoy a drink as they work.

People who attend the event will learn the basic techniques and skills that define bonsai, at the same time they enjoy an evening out. Teachers will present the core concepts of the art, and act as guides while attendees design, pot, and prune their own tree. Participants will have a chance to choose the Dwarf Jade tree they prefer, along with a glazed ceramic pot to use to plant their creation. Organizers will lend attendees all the materials and tools they will need.

The Dwarf Jade species has been chosen because of its hardiness. The organizers guarantee the person who creates their tree will have no trouble keeping it alive. If the tree dies, they will replace it. Video consultations will be available after the class.

The Bonsai Bar is scheduled for March 13, from 5.00 pm until 7.00 pm, at the Long Blue Cat, 298 Rockingham Road. Organizers of events like this may consider working with flyer printing to create a handout explaining the project in detail.
